Prison Arts Initiative

What is the Indiana University Prison Arts Initiative?

The Indiana University Prison Arts Initiative (IUPAI) began Fall 2022 as an outreach partnership run through the IU Arts & Humanities Council. Our main goal is to send IU instructors into prisons to teach college-level courses—a fundamentals of visual art class to begin with! The class is tailored to the education levels of the students, specifically designed for students with high school diplomas but not necessarily college experience.

IUPAI will also produce research and highlight work currently being done in the prison education field. Through our various programs and events, we aim to facilitate valuable conversations among the IU community and offer accessible ways for these conversations to become action.
