Taylor Swift: The Conference Era

This conference seeks to gather Swifties and Swifty-adjacent thinkers for a meeting of the (master)minds focused on examining pertinent topics through the lens of sold-out stadium star Taylor Swift.

This year, Taylor Swift embarked on her record-breaking Eras Tour, which sold over 2.4 million tickets in a single day. As the tour title signals, this moment provides an opportunity to not only reflect on, but also re-imagine Swift’s extensive impact. Scholars and fans alike see this as a critical time to discuss and analyze Taylor Swift’s impact during yet another peak in her extensive and iconic career.

The conference will take place at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on November 3rd and 4th, with adjacent events at First Thursdays and the Cook Center for Public Arts & Humanities.

Adjacent Conference Events

IMU from 4-7pm

The First Thursdays Fall Festival at the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) will include various Taylor Swift themed activites by various campus and community partners.

Taylor Swift eras performances by Ladies First, IU Musical Theater, Magnolia, Honey Iced Tea and Bloomington Delta Music Club,

The IU Eras Tour will feature several Taylor Swift cutouts stationed across key campus arts and humanities spaces-- snaps a photo, tag us and be entered to win one of several special prize packs!

This event is free, all ages and open to the public.

The Back Door (21+) from 9-12am

Help us kick-off this conference with a dance party at The Back Door on Thursday night. Themed drinks, dancing and party photos? This is getting good now!

Free event, must be 21+ to enter.

The Bishop Bar (21+) from 8-12am

Trivia hosted by Bloomington Pub Quiz-- prizes from local gems like Landlocked Music, Tracks and Morgenstern Books.

Karaoke hosted by Misfit Toy-- singing starts at 9:30pm and ends at midnight!

Themed drinks!

Costumes encouraged.

$5 entry benefitting Girls Rock Bloomington!

Cook Center for Public Arts & Humanities at Maxwell Hall (750 E. Kirkwood Ave,) from 12-5pm.

Join us for a closing celebration of two of our favorite things-- local artists and Taylor Swift!

This is a Taylor Swift themed academic conference examining the career, discography, legacy and cultural impact of Taylor Swift. There will be keynote talks, panels and workshops with over 30 national and global scholars.

This event is free and open to the public. We are excited to welcome scholars, students and community members!

Calling all Taylor Swift fans and artists!

We are seeking artists who would be interested in participating in an artists market on Sunday, November 5th, from 12 - 4 pm in the Gayle Karch Cook Center on IU's campus.

All artists are encouraged to have artwork related to TS for sale. Unrelated work is encouraged as well!

The deadline to apply is Monday, October 2nd at 11:59 EST.
