Prison Arts Initiative

What is the Indiana University Prison Arts Initiative?

The Indiana University Prison Arts Initiative (IUPAI) is an outreach program run by the IU Arts & Humanities Council to expand access to higher education within Indiana prisons. Starting in Fall 2022, our first steps are focused on education in the arts. Our classes are tailored to the educational needs of the program’s students, typically made up of inmate populations without prior college experience.

IUPAI serves to highlight the work being done in the Prison Education field. With this in mind, our program aims to facilitate valuable conversations about how IU can contribute to this growing field through advocacy, exhibitions, and workshops.
